Lake Pend Oreille School District is proud to serve as both an educational cornerstone and a key contributor to the strength and vitality of our community. Our schools play an important role not only in preparing students for the future, but also in supporting local families, strengthening the workforce, and helping our region grow and thrive.
A powerful example of that commitment is the development of the district’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC), opening at the start of the 2026–27 school year. This new facility will expand hands-on learning opportunities in high-demand fields such as carpentry, welding, forestry, culinary arts, cybersecurity, nursing, and more. CTEC represents a shared investment in preparing students for meaningful careers and meeting the evolving needs of the local economy.
That focus on preparing students for the future is reflected in strong and improving outcomes across the district. The graduation rate has reached 91.2%, a 5% increase from the previous year and well above the state average of 82.3%. At Lake Pend Oreille High School, targeted support has helped increase the graduation rate from 50% to more than 80%, demonstrating the impact of intentional efforts to meet students where they are. Sandpoint High School continues to rank among the top-performing high schools in Idaho, with top-tier ISAT scores in science, math, and English Language Arts.
Student success begins early, and district elementary schools are seeing exceptional literacy results. This year, 92% of kindergarten students met proficiency benchmarks on the Idaho Reading Indicator, ranking first among traditional public schools statewide. Across all K–3 grade levels, students are showing steady growth, supported by the district’s commitment to the Every Student Graduates a Reader initiative. Through a comprehensive “Pathways to Reading” approach, the district is ensuring that every student receives the instruction and intervention needed to become a confident reader.
Equally important is the sense of connection students feel in their schools. More than 95% of students report having at least one trusted adult they can turn to, and the district’s chronic absenteeism rate remains at just 3.4%, significantly lower than the state average of 14.6%. These indicators reflect the strong relationships and supportive environments that are essential to both academic success and student well-being.
The district continues to invest in learning environments that put the needs of every student first. The upcoming renovation of Sandpoint Middle School, set to begin in summer 2026, represents the first phase of the district’s recently approved 10-year facilities plan. Designed with a section-by-section approach, the project will allow students to remain in consistent learning environments throughout construction and is scheduled for completion in August 2027. The full facilities plan, outlining future improvements across the district, is available at lposd.org by selecting Departments, then Facilities.
Together, these efforts reflect a district committed to measurable outcomes, meaningful opportunities, and strong community partnerships. As it looks ahead, Lake Pend Oreille School District remains focused on ensuring every student, every day, is prepared to contribute to a thriving and resilient community.
