Movie Night at the Northwest Montana History Museum screens the classic "9 to 5" on April 28.

When Violet Newstead (Lily Tomlin) is turned down for a promotion in favor of an inexperienced man, she takes matters into her own hands. It turns out that Violet isn’t the only one Mr. Hart (Dabney Coleman), has wronged.

After spending an evening with two other coworkers (Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda) and victims of Mr. Hart, the three women concoct a plan. Chaos ensues as the women attempt to deal with the situation and the company where they work.

The cult classic is directed by Colin Higgins, based on an idea by Fonda. It was a pivotal movie for Parton and solidified her fame with the theme song, 9 to 5, becoming her biggest hit of the decade. Though the film received mixed reviews on opening, it has since been praised for its commentary on sexism in the workplace.

The screening takes place 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, in the Swanberg Classroom at the Northwest Montana History Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. Doors open 6:30 p.m. Host and educator Jacob Thomas will provide prescreening remarks.

Admission and popcorn are free, with soda, water, beer, and wine available for purchase. Seating is provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own cushions or chairs for added comfort.

The Northwest Montana History Museum brings the past alive through exhibits, artifacts, educational programs, and events. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell; nwmthistory.org; 406-756-8381.
