The Pulitzer Prize winning comedy, “You Can’t Take It With You,” kicks off the Port Polson Players 51st season at Polson’s historic Theatre on the Lake.

The comedy classic, written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, was first performed in 1936, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama a year later. It tells the story of the eccentric and free-spirited Sycamore family, whose lives are upended when their daughter becomes engaged to the straightlaced son of a wealthy, Wall Street banker.

The film version, which debuted in 1938 and was directed by Frank Capra, won two Academy Awards.

Rob Edington, Dana Grant, Desiree Alexander, Jim and Jeanie Siragusa are among a cast of 20 Mission Valley performers in the Port Polson Players production.

“The laughter and wisdom of the show is guaranteed to lend audiences an uplifting reflection,” says Players co-producer Karen Lewing. Although the play deals with family values, Lewing advises that the story line could be difficult for elementary students to follow.

The show is stage two weekends, April 24-26 and May 1-3 at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $17 for adults and $16 for senior citizens, students and veterans. Call 406-883-9212 or make reservations online at portpolsonplayers.com.
