PREP SOFTBALL: Badgers earn tie, take loss in Sandpoint doubleheader

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 23, 2026 1:00 AM

Game 1: Sandpoint 20, Bonners Ferry 2 (5)

SANDPOINT — It didn't exactly go as planned, but if there are two teams dressed and ready to play on a sunny spring day in North Idaho, those teams aren't going to pass up the opportunity.

Monday's games were originally scheduled to be official contests, but Bonners Ferry was short a player, and due to IHSAA guidelines, were forced to forfeit the non-league doubleheader. With a senior night on tap for Sandpoint, the two squads decided to participate in a pair of scrimmages anyways.

Hailey Dickson was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and RBIs for Bonners Ferry, which was outhit 13-5 by the Lady Bulldogs.

Ryelle Short collected two hits, with Randi Hibbard adding one as well. Hannah Frago threw three strong innings, working around 4 hits to not allow a single earned run in three innings, adding one strikeout.

Sandpoint sophomore Marlee Stevens was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a home run, four runs scored and five RBIs in total as the Lady Bulldogs compiled 11 extra-base hits as Sandpoint scored 19 of their 20 runs across the first two innings.
