Libby softball rolls past Whitefish, 13-2

Leah Rusdal hit a two-run home run, Carmen Kohler threw four innings of hitless relief and Libby put away Northwest A rival Whitefish Tuesday in six innings.
Weslee MacDonald’s two-run single erased a 2-1 Whitefish lead in the third inning, and the Loggers blew the game open with seven runs in the fifth, all after two were out.
Tessa Purdy hit a two-run double, Rossi Baney followed with a triple and Rusdal added a two-run double for a 10-2 lead. The game ended early under the mercy rule.
Bently Houston had two hits and scored three times from the leadoff spot for Libby. Purdy also had a triple for the Loggers (4-2).
Baylee Hyland and Elyse Sharpnack drove in runs for Whitefish (0-5-1).
Kohler came on for starter Maddie Willis in the third inning and allowed four walks, hit batter and struck out eight. Willis allowed five hits and a walk in her two innings of work. She struck out two.
Polson 10, Libby 8
The Libby Loggers came up just short in a back-and-forth road game April 14, falling to Polson 10-8 in varsity softball action.
Libby finished with nine hits and stayed within striking distance throughout, but Polson used a six-run fifth inning to regain control and held on for the win.
The Loggers put together a balanced offensive effort. Hadleigh Wood led the way, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a home run. Bentley Houston also had a strong game at the plate, finishing 2 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
Libby showed patience and aggression offensively, collecting nine stolen bases. Wood had two steals, as did Rossi Baney.
Libby scored two runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to take the lead, but was held scoreless in the final three innings.
Carmen Kohler started in the circle for Libby and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and 10 runs, five earned. Maddie Willis worked the final 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out two.
