PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint baseball extends winning streak to eight with league victories over Lakeland
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 hours, 13 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 24, 2026 1:00 AM

RATHDRUM — It's safe to say that Sandpoint has been swinging some hot bats as of late.
Following a four-game sweep of Bonners Ferry, with a sweep of Moscow sandwiched in between, those bats did not cool off Thursday when the Bulldogs headed to Lakeland for a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader.
Junior Jack Schriber went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, an RBI single, and his second home run of the week — a three-run shot to center field during Sandpoint's nine-run fourth frame — junior Carson Resso added a 3-for-4 effort that included three runs scored and a pair of RBI singles, and the Bulldogs scored early and often in a game one rout of the Hawks.
Three other players collected multi-hit efforts as Sandpoint outhit Lakeland by a 16-4 margin and drew 13 walks in the contest. Senior Sage Medeiros went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and an RBI single, senior Mason Little was 2-for-5 with a two-run double and an RBI single, and senior Parker Reichart was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles for Sandpoint, which scored at least three runs in four of the five innings they batted.
Medeiros lowered his ERA to 0.40 on the year and improved to 7-0 on the season on the bump as he struck out three batters across four one-hit innings. The right-hander only needed 37 pitches to get the job done.
Lakeland, led by a Parker Byrd two-run double, scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.
Senior Soren Caprio tallied a two-run single and both junior Brennan Shaw and senior Coleman Inge doubled for the Bulldogs during the 19-run victory — their largest margin of victory since 2018, when Sandpoint defeated Priest River by a score of 26-0.

RATHDRUM — And the bats didn't cool off in game two.
Senior Mason Little went 3-for-4 with a two-run single, a double, and his first career home run — a solo shot to left field in the fourth — senior Dallen Williams put together another quality start on the rubber, striking out five batters across six two-hit innings, and the Bulldogs clinched a series and season sweep of the Hawks during Thursday afternoon's 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader at Lakeland High.
Senior Parker Reichart recorded three hits of his own, including a two-run double in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh for Sandpoint, which also got two hits on the day from senior Soren Caprio, who hit an RBI double to start off the scoring in the second inning.
Junior Carson Resso smashed a double of his own, as did junior Brennan Shaw, who also struck out two batters across a perfect inning in relief on the mound for the Bulldogs. Sandpoint High head coach Jesse Dunham said a point of emphasis in the program is showing up — not just in baseball, but in life — and the team did just that on Thursday.
"We work really hard to make sure we're heading into games, focused for the entirety of it," coach Dunham said. "... They definitely showed up in game one and game two today. The team has been phenomenal lately, it's been a good ride, and I'm very grateful to have the group (of players) that I have now."
Lakeland scored their lone run in the third via a Jake Larcher RBI single. The Hawks, which swept Moscow earlier this year and have beaten Lewiston twice, dropped to 8-10 on the season with the pair of losses.
Junior Jack Schriber and senior Sage Medeiros chipped in singles for Sandpoint (16-2), which has clinched the 5A Inland Empire League regular season title and has now won eight straight games in which they're outscoring opponents 105-14. They'll look to continue one of their most successful seasons in recent history when they finish up the regular season with a league doubleheader at Moscow on Saturday.
