COEUR d'ALENE — The Sandpoint Sharks Swim Team had multiple High Point Award winners as they successfully hosted their first-ever home meet from April 17 to 19 at the Kroc Center.
"Organizing and executing an event of this scale was no small task, but thanks to the dedication of coaches, swimmers, families, and volunteers, the meet ran smoothly and proved to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved," Sandpoint Sharks coach Emily Renzini noted.
With 56 athletes competing for Sandpoint at the meet — 25 for the first time — the Sharks had a need to add their coaching staff. Kristine Antilla, Kati Johnson, Sara Hogue and Dana Jackson have been welcomed as new assistant coaches so that every swimmer can be provided with quality guidance at large meets like the Shark Attack Meet this past weekend, which saw over 150 swimmers from across the Inland Northwest.
In the pool, the Sharks posted 28 individual wins and eight wins in the relays.
In the girls' 10-and-under age division, Kate Bracht (9) won the 25 free (16.06), the 50 fly (43.52), the 50 back (43.20), the 50 free (36.99) and the 100 IM (1:32.97).

In the 13-14 girls' age division, Myelle Jensen (14) won the 400 free (5:04.16), the 50 free (29.12), the 100 back (1:12.50), the 100 breast (1:26.09), the 100 free (1:04.03) and the 200 IM (2:45.18).
In the 15-and-over girls' age division, Athena de Leeuw (15) won the 400 free (5:25.90) and Mia Driggs (18) won the 50 free (30.14).
In the 10-and-under boys' division, Isaac Good added wins in the 50 breast (56.21) and the 100 IM (1:51.56).
In the 13-14 boys' age division, Joshua Jackson (14) won the 400 free (4:40.01), the 100 fly (1:12.01), the 100 back (1:10.62), the 100 free (1:01.48) and the 200 IM (2:39.68).
In the 15-and-over boys' age division, Lou Foust (16) won the 100 back (1:06.20) and the 100 breast (1:23.77) to wrap up the Sharks' winning efforts at the three-day event.
"The athletes delivered outstanding performances," coach Renzini continued. "Watching these athletes step up, overcome nerves, and turn their hard work into strong swims and proud smiles was a highlight of the weekend."
