Troy battles in losses to Florence-Carlton and MAC

The Troy softball team battled through three games in two days against strong competition, opening with a pair of losses to Florence-Carlton on Friday before dropping a one-run game to MAC on Saturday.
The Lady Trojans showed some offensive firepower in Friday’s opener, but Florence-Carlton pulled away for a 12-6 win. Claire Folkerts turned in a huge game at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs. Ellah Wallace also homered, while Allie Borgmann added two hits.
Troy finished with seven hits in the opener, but Florence-Carlton answered with 14 hits of its own. Ainsley Huitron pitched all six innings for the Lady Trojans.
The second game against Florence-Carlton was tighter, with Troy pushing the Falcons before falling 10-8. The Lady Trojans collected nine hits, led by Allie Borgmann, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Hailey Dungan added two hits and an RBI, Ainsley Huitron had two hits, a double and drove in a run and Addyson Fisher doubled and scored.
Troy stayed within striking distance throughout despite Florence-Carlton’s 16-hit attack. The Lady Trojans scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, but Florence responded with three runs in the top of the seventh to get back ahead.
Saturday’s matchup with MAC was another close contest, with Troy coming up just short in a 4-3 loss. The Lady Trojans again produced nine hits, with Kirsti Jellesed going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Addyson Fisher tripled, drove in a run and scored, while Ellie Borgmann, Claire Folkerts and Ainsley Huitron all added two hits. Huitron doubled and scored, and Halle Wallace struck out seven in a complete-game effort in the circle.
Troy had a 3-2 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the seventh, but MAC was able to walk-off in the bottom of the frame for the victory. Troy is now 6-4 on the season.
The Lady Trojans hosted Eureka Thursday and play a doubleheader Saturday at Bonners Ferry.
