Five area wrestlers win titles at Idaho Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships

Full caption: Five area wrestlers captured individual titles — three in Freestyle and two in Greco-Roman — at the Idaho Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships held April 17 and 18 at Caldwell High. Dominic Ratigan, wrestling at 175 pounds, won two bouts by technical fall via scores of 11-0 and 8-0 to claim a 16U title in Greco-Roman action. Lilli Marti (190-207), a Treasure Valley CC commit, also won a Junior title in Greco-Roman with two wins by pin and a win by 4-2 decision. In the Freestyle discipline, Mackenzee Donenfeld (100-105) won a Junior title with two wins by pin and win by a 10-0 technical fall; Summer Birch (120), who hails from Clark Fork, posted a win by pin and two wins by decision with scores of 8-1 and 7-6, respectively, to win a 16U title; and Izzy Stark (145) won a Junior title with a pair of victories by pin. All of the aforementioned qualified to compete on Idaho's USA Wrestling National Team, as did Zxyloh Johnson, Vanessa Hood, and Rhaelyn Schedlbauer. Allie Esposito, Reed Corey and Priest River's Naia Lamb also represented the area at the event, which serves as an official qualifying event for the USA Wrestling 16U and Junior Individual National Championships set to be held July 9-18 at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
