SANDPOINT — The sound of children's laughter echoed in the halls of the Bonner County Fairgrounds building during LillyBrooke Family Justice Center’s sixth annual Kids Fair on Saturday. 

The Kids Fair is an event put on by LillyBrooke and the Bonner County Prosecutors' office, which brings awareness to the organization that provides free support services to victims of crime in Bonner County. At the event, the floor was packed with games, bounce houses and face-painting stations for kids to enjoy completely free of charge. 

“It's very heartwarming to see all these kids in our community,” Alison Fox, executive director of LillyBrooke said. “It's just amazing to see how many people are here supporting us and coming out, enjoying free food, free candy, free games, just having fun. That's what it's about, right?” 

This was the first year the event was held at the fairgrounds, with the previous five events being held at the organization’s center at 227 S. First Ave. Fox is in her first year as director of LillyBrooke and said that while stressful, the fairgrounds’ space turned out to be perfect for the event. 

Fox said the annual event is held in April in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month, which puts a spotlight on organizations like LillyBrooke. 

“This is the opportunity to get people to understand what we do for their community, how we're serving victims of crime, how we're serving children who have been abused,” Fox said. “We are a free service to anybody who is struggling with domestic violence, anybody who is dealing with some sort of child abuse, things that are going on in the home.” 

Fox credited the numerous community partners, volunteers and her team for making the event possible. She said her favorite part of the event is the face paint booth and popcorn booth, as those are always a hit with the kids. 

“I didn't do this by myself. I don't deserve all the credit for this,” Fox said. “This was definitely a team effort for everybody at LillyBrooke, everybody at the prosecutor's office and supporting partners that put this event together, so I owe it to them.”
