PREP ROUNDUP: Frosh Stevens swings Vikings past Timberwolves for 6A IEL title

COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman Savannah Stevens hit three home runs and drove in four runs in the first game for Coeur d’Alene, which clinched the 6A Inland Empire League title and top seed to the district tournament with an 11-5 win en route to a sweep of the Lake City Timberwolves on Saturday at Lake City High.
Coeur d’Alene (18-0, 8-0 6A IEL) will face the winner of Thursday’s game between Post Falls (6-12, 0-8) and Lake City (12-5, 4-4) in a best-of-3 championship series starting May 2 at Larry Schwenke Field.
Senior Ellie Henderson and junior Kyndal Bridge drove in two runs each in the opener for Coeur d’Alene.
Senior KaeLee Kolden hit two homers and drove in four runs in the opener for Lake City.
In the nightcap, Bridge hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning, finishing with four RBIs in an 8-4 win.
“Seven home runs — what a way to end league,” Coeur d’Alene coach Bobbi Darretta said. “I am very proud of all my players and each one helped us with an undefeated season, on the mound, in the field, and at the plate. But it’s not over yet and we will not overlook anyone; the Vikings have big goals but we’re going to take it one game at a time.”
Stevens struck out 10 in the second game for Coeur d’Alene, which is off until next Saturday.
Lake City is scheduled to host Lewiston and Bonners Ferry on Monday.

POST FALLS — Senior Kiersten Drake hit a grand slam in the first inning, junior Raygen Dutton hit a solo shot in the third and sophomore Reese Dutton hit a two-run shot in the seventh as the Hawks held off the Trojans in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Post Falls High.
Junior Jaya Felix hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for Post Falls.
In the second game, Reese Dutton struck out six for Lakeland (16-4), which travels to Lewiston for a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader on Tuesday.
Sophomore Rylan Morrison had two RBIs in the second game for Post Falls (6-12), which travels to Timberlake to conclude the regular season.

ST. MARIES — Daniel Jensen hit a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning for the Lumberjacks, who split a Central Idaho League doubleheader with the Spartans at PotlatchDeltic Field.
St. Maries (4-11, 4-8 CIL) will be the fourth seed to the 3A District 1-2 tournament starting Wednesday at top seed Orofino (17-3, 12-0). Priest River (12-4, 8-4) will be the second seed and play host to third-seeded Kellogg (4-16, 4-8) in the first round.
Grangeville (4-15, 2-10), which finished fifth, will not advance to districts.
William Durham struck out eight in six innings in the opener for St. Maries.
In the second game, Broden Collins drove in four runs and Brayden Elder scored four runs for Priest River.

Viking girls second at
Walla Walla meet
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Coeur d’Alene High girls 4x800 relay team of sophomore Anna Christman, freshman Gracie McVey, freshman Kat Baker and sophomore Lillie Dance won in 10 minutes, 7.25 seconds, leading the Vikings to a runner-up finish in the Legends Twilight Invitational at Walla Walla High.
Coeur d’Alene finished with 74 points. Eagle won with 79 points.
“Our girls had an amazing meet in Walla Walla, finishing second in a very tough meet,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said.
Coeur d’Alene sophomore Savannah Tidd won the girls discus (120 feet, 9 inches) and was third in the shot put (33-2 ¾).
Lake City juniors Courtney Johnson, Tillie Sobek, Madelyn Putzig and Macie Zimmerman won the girls throwers relay in 59.31 seconds. Johnson was also second in the shot put (36-10).
Sandpoint junior Elizabeth Storms was second in the 800 (2:18.23), senior Jasmin Laing second in the girls high jump (5 feet, 2 inches) and senior Izzy Davidson third in the pole vault (10-6).
Sandpoint senior Maverick Gomez won the boys 100-meter dash (10.76) and 200 (21.89) individually and contributed to the school’s winning 4x100 team in 42.07 along with junior Trey Blumenberg and seniors Kamren Ziarnick and Isaac Schmit.
Coeur d’Alene senior Mitchell Rietze was second in the 1,600 (4:14.65) and Viking sophomore Blaise Howard was third in the 3,200 (9:30.62).
Post Falls sophomore Landon Goodwin won the boys javelin (164 feet, 11 inches).
Lakeland squads finish third
at Bomber Invitational
RICHLAND, Wash. — Lakeland’s Parker Sterling, Brayden Carrel and Jackie Robbins, and the school’s 4x100 girls relay team of Casey Foster, Ruby Kindy, Tessa Lovell and Ashlyn Karle were among the winners in the Bomber Invitational at Richland High.
Sterling, a junior, won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 6:44.40. Carrel, a senior, won the boys shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 5 ½ inches. Robbins, a junior, won the discus with a throw of 126 feet, 6 inches. The 4x100 girls relay team won in 50.38 seconds.
Lakeland senior Ryan Engelbrecht was second in the 400 (51.95 seconds) and freshman Olivia Meredith second in the 3,200 (12:14.39) and 2,000-meter steeplechase (8:10.30).
Lakeland's boys and girls each finished third.
Richland swept the team titles.

Coeur d'Alene's Mandel finishes
second at Inland Empire
Coeur d’Alene junior Samuel Mandel finished runner-up in the No. 2 boys singles bracket at the Inland Empire Tournament this weekend in Spokane.
The Viking No. 2 mixed doubles team of freshman Logan Cotant and sophomore Molly Jaeger was third.
The Lake City mixed doubles team of junior Chloe Fitzgerald and senior Jaden Ross won the No. 2 bracket.
Other Coeur d’Alene placers were junior Grant Johnson (fourth in No. 1 boys singles), sophomore Ryker Frank and junior William Watkins (No. 1 boys doubles consolation champion) and junior Brody Raber and senior Ava Jaeger (No. 1 mixed doubles consolation champions).
