Robert Michael Keenan — born Sept. 20, 1947, died March 12, 2026. Parents were George and Lois Keenan. Survived by siblings Patricia Canady, Bill and Tom Keenan, and graduated from Yucaipa High School, Yucaipa, Calif., in 1966.
Robert enlisted in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971, serving in Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia. After an honorable discharge, a certified disabled Vet receiving VA benefits for life, rightfully deserved.
Rob gained respect and inspiration through his brave navigation of Asperger's syndrome, a condition on the autism spectrum. He had an encyclopedic memory for nearly any stat or fact, a sharp wit with a great laugh.
He remained in Yucaipa from 1971 to 1975, moved to Seattle from 1975 to 1981, and lived and worked at the Salvation Army ARC. Lived close to Seattle Kingdome, attending the vast majority of Mariner games. He loved his Mariners. Rooted for and supported his favorite NFL team, the Seahawks.
Rob lived in Coeur d'Alene from 1981 to 1998, worked in various service-industry occupations, and was highly active in the Coeur d'Alene Democratic Party, a regular volunteer who never missed the weekly Friday luncheons. An avid hiker, a rabid runner who participated in several Coeur d'Alene Marathons, finishing all. A regular supporter and volunteer at Art on the Green. He lived in Mukilteo, Wash., from 1998 to 2021. His last five years were spent in Everette View Ridge Center, 2021-2026.
Despite worsening disabilities, he was determined not to give up hiking, purchasing a walking stick, then a cane, then a walker — whatever it took. A can-do approach, a gracious outlook, and acceptance of the hand he was dealt defined him, making him a constant inspiration to family and friends. Robert tackled multiple books at once, reading one in mere days. A staunch supporter of independent bookstores, Elliott Bay Bookstore in Seattle was his go-to.
A character you never forgot if you were fortunate to meet him. A joy to be around and a loving soul. Will be dearly missed.
