COLUMBIA FALLS — On a chilly Saturday at Mike Nicosia Track and Field Complex, the Bigfork boys and Columbia Falls girls delivered standout performances at the Iceberg Invitational.

The Vikings claimed the boys team title with 108 points, followed by Columbia Falls (96), Hamilton (84) and Whitefish (52).

Bigfork’s day was fueled by a dominant effort from Tamret Savik.

The senior turned in one of the meet’s top performances, winning the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 47 feet, 8 inches — the top mark in Montana — while also claiming the high jump at 6-2. Even more impressive, Savik competed in both events simultaneously.

“It’s nice to see that I’m getting rhythm back in my approach,” Savik said. “Having a good mark and getting a good first phase is what got me through today.”

Tayden West added a win for Bigfork in the 100 meters (11.45) and placed second in the 200 with a personal-best 22.98.

“I think in the last 40 meters I was able to get to the top speed I’ve been trying to get all season,” West said. “Today was a success for my team and I.”

Austin Savik contributed with a win in the 110 hurdles (15.62), a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles (42.43), and ran legs on both winning relay teams.

“My goal is to win state in both hurdles and today I made progress towards that,” he said. “Every meet I try to PR and be the best in Class A.”

Columbia Falls stayed within striking distance behind Jett Brandeberry and Miles Colliander. Brandeberry placed second in the 100 (11.70) and fourth in the 200, while Colliander finished third in both hurdle events. The Wildcats also took second in both relays.

Whitefish was led by Colby Minton, who won the 400 in 51.76 and added a third-place finish in the 200.

On the girls side, Columbia Falls edged Hamilton 107.5 to 103, with Polson (75), Corvallis (70.25) and Bigfork (54) rounding out the top five.

The Wildkats were powered by Hazel Matson, who won the 100 hurdles (17.74), Ashley Andrews in the 800 (2:32.28), and Soli Bullemer, who cleared 11 feet to win the pole vault.

Columbia Falls also stacked points in the distance races and finished second in the 1,600 relay (4:20.53).

Hamilton stayed close behind a strong all-around showing from Annalise Lewis, who won the 400 and 1600 and anchored the Broncs’ winning 4x400 relay.

Whitefish’s Avery Orme stood out with wins in the 100 (12.93) and triple jump (36-4), while also adding a personal best in the 200 and points for the Bulldogs in the 400.

Bigfork finished fifth on the girls side, led by Hadley Nollan’s third-place finish in the 800, along with contributions in relays and field events.
