Soap Lake: lake-focused groups not connected to city
STAFF REPORT | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 hours, 30 minutes AGO
SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake city officials issued a clarification Monday to ensure people know that three lake‑focused advocacy groups are not connected to the city's municipal government.
In a statement, the city said the Soap Lake Conservancy, the Lake Liaison Committee and Save Soap Lake operate entirely independently and “are not affiliates, agencies, departments, or representative bodies of the City of Soap Lake in any capacity.”
Both the Soap Lake Conservancy and the Lake Liaison Committee are non-profit organizations. All three groups focus on the health and preservation of Soap Lake, but the city said they have “no formal legal, organizational, or operational connection” to elected officials or city staff.
The statement notes that the city does not fund, direct or oversee any of the groups' activities.
“Accordingly, any statements, comments, activities/events, representations, or positions expressed or organized by members of the SLC, LLC, or SSL, their leadership, or members of the community acting in association with these entities, are not made on behalf of the City of Soap Lake, nor are they sanctioned, endorsed, or authorized by the City,” reads the statement.
The city encouraged residents to rely on official channels for accurate information about municipal policy and city‑led initiatives. Questions about conservation efforts or lake‑related advocacy should be directed to the groups themselves.
The statement thanked the community for its engagement and reaffirmed that official city positions will continue to be communicated directly through City Hall.
