Safe disposal of vaping devices available at Lincoln Co. Landfill

Lincoln County residents now have a safe and responsible option for disposing of vaping devices.
The Lincoln County Landfill is accepting vaping devices—simply bring them to the gate attendant in individual Ziploc bags for proper handling.
This new disposal option is important for both environmental and public health reasons. Vaping devices often contain lithium-ion batteries, nicotine residue and other hazardous materials that should never be thrown in the trash. When improperly discarded, these devices can cause fires in garbage trucks and landfills, leak harmful chemicals into the soil and water, and contribute to long-term environmental damage.
In addition to environmental concerns, vaping devices pose serious health risks. Many contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that can impact brain development in youth, increase heart rate and blood pressure, and contribute to long-term dependence. Even devices labeled as “disposable” often contain significant amounts of nicotine and electronic waste.
"By properly disposing of vaping devices and supporting efforts to reduce nicotine use, we can protect our community’s health and preserve our environment for future generations," Lincoln County Public Health Tobacco Education Specialist Sarah Long said.
