Create Arts and Community Center in Newport is coordinating a silent auction this weekend, thanks to the family of a late local artist.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Create Arts and Community Center and The Wilderness Fellowship.

The silent auction will be held Saturday, May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at American Lutheran Church, 332801 U.S. 2, Newport. The evening will include live music by Ben Kardos and refreshments.

The benefit has its genesis in the donation of a large body of artwork from the estate of Arnold and Cherilyn Anderson. Most of the pieces are by Cherilyn Anderson, a Spokane-based artist known for her unique and traditional rosemaling style. Anderson’s work has been shown widely and is held in private collections around the world. In addition to her own art, the estate includes works from the Andersons’ personal collection.

Additional artwork features Norwegian, First Nations, Russian and American artists, including Doug Miller, Thomas Kinkade and Bjorg, according to event organizers.

Artwork offered for auction is described as “heirloom caliber,” and the sale qualifies as a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible donation.
