Bobcat tennis hiatus ends with road wins
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 1 week AGO
After a self-described two-week hiatus, the Superior Bobcat tennis team is back in a big way, proving the fact with a great day of Superior play in action in Anaconda and Butte Saturday.
Led by senior Perri Jasper and the triumphant return of junior Josie Crabb at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, coach Rick Berreth said that the Lady Cats won 11 of 13 matches on the day.
Playing No. 1 singles after three seasons of playing doubles, Jasper impressed Berreth. “Perri’s all-court style, honed by three years of doubles play, was on full display,” he said. “She dominated Butte Central's No. 1 singles player 6-1, 6-0, and defeated Anaconda's top singles player 8-0.”
A returning State B-C place-winner playing at No. 2 singles in her first action back since recovering from a stress fracture first diagnosed back during her All-State C basketball season, Crabb was equally effective, Berreth offered, saying Josie did not drop a game in winning both of her matches with BC and Anaconda.
Berreth said freshmen Kamryn Church and Alyza Wickham “were double winners for the day,” and that Lily Capp, Camdyn Atkin and Charlotte Allard also all contributed to Superior’s very successful trip to the courts of Deer Lodge and Silver Bow counties Saturday.
With the net hiatus officially ended, Berreth and his Bobcats, who he is referring to as road warriors from this point forward, hope to play through the rest of the season freely, beginning with Libby Tournament Friday and Saturday.
Berreth said he and his Bobcat net contingent will return to Lincoln County Monday to face the Troy Trojans, retracing their route there on Highways 200 and 2 once more, truly being the road warriors that they have become.
