Esther “Ivonne” Meyer, age 96, passed away peacefully in her beloved Hayden, Idaho, home April 9, 2026. She was born April 23, 1929, in Fulton, S.D., to Merle and Marie Welch. The Welch family of nine moved to Post Falls, Idaho, in 1937.
She enjoyed working at the Coeur d’Alene Laundry and the Dietary Department at Kootenai Medical Center. She met the love of her life, Marvin Meyer, and they eloped to Superior, Mont., in 1953. They were married for 45 years, living in Coeur d’Alene before moving to their forever home in Hayden, Idaho. In 1966, they were blessed with the unexpected arrival of their beloved daughter, Caryn Lee Meyer.
Ivonne was deeply connected to her granddaughters, her family and friends. She loved to keep her Craftsman home immaculate and enjoyed mowing her manicured lawn well into her 90s. She was kind, generous and strong, and she was loved by everyone she met.
Ivonne is survived by her daughter, Caryn and son-in-law, Mark Sweitzer, of Spokane, Wash.; her granddaughters, Linsay Sweitzer of Boise, Idaho, and Bailey Sweitzer of Spokane, Wash.; her brother, Ronald and sister-in-law, Ginger Welch of Spokane Valley, Wash.; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Meyer of Rathdrum, Idaho, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Meyer; her parents, Merle and Marie Welch; her sisters, Avis Sweitzer, Lois Brugger and Nona Rawls; and her brothers, Corvin Welch and Floyd Welch.
A graveside dedication will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2026, at Evergreen Cemetery, 2834 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, ID 83854.
