SELECT SOCCER

The Sting SC 09 Boys Academy team played two games this past weekend in the first round of the Idaho State Cup.  Both games were on Saturday at Simplot Sports Complex in west Boise.

Saturday morning the Sting secured a 5-0 victory over IFFC Claret-Clarkson. Mason Taylor scored the opening goal with a free kick. Rowan Wyatt scored a goal with an assist from Pax Longanecker. Ethan Luna made an assist with a corner kick to a goal by Jacob Melun. Mason Taylor also had a corner assist to Brooks Judd, who scored the final goal.

Saturday afternoon the Sting won 3-0 over CGA Elite. Mason Taylor scored off a deflected goal that had been shot by Taylor Smith. Miles Hart assisted Brooks Judd for the second goal of the game. Brooks Judd assisted Taylor Smith for the final goal.

Landon Brinkmeier posted the shutout in goal for both games.

The Sting advances to the semis/final weekend of State Cup in late May in Boise.

The Sting opened the weekend with a 2-0 win over Indie Chicas. Presley Moreau scored on an assist from Elle Sousley, and Kylie Lorona added a second goal. In their second match, the Sting defeated the Timberwolves 2011G 3-1. Moreau scored twice, and Lorona added one goal. The Sting closed out the round-robin with a 3-1 win over CGA Elite 11G. Goals came from Kate Keaggy, Olivia Nusser and Moreau. With the three wins, the Sting advances to the State Cup semifinals, set for the end of May in Boise. The team returns to league play this weekend with GA Aspire matches against WW Surf and Seattle Reign.     Photo by KAYLEAN MAY The Sting Soccer Club 2013 Girls Academy team traveled to Boise last weekend to compete in the first round of the Idaho Youth Soccer Association State Cup. On Friday, the Sting beat CGA Academy 6-2. On Saturday, the Sting faced Indie Chicas and won 4-2. Later Saturday, the Sting beat Idaho Rush Elite 1-0. The Sting finished first in their bracket and will return to Boise at the end of May to take on IFFC 2013G Claret-Whittier in the State Cup semifinals.
