Candidate forum set for April 30

BONNERS FERRY — Panhandle Republican Women will host a District 1 Republican Legislator Forum on April 30, with all six District 1 Republican candidates expected to attend. 

The event will be held at the Bonners Ferry High School auditorium and will start at 6 p.m. 

Each race is contested: Jim Woodward and Scott Herndon are running for District 1 state senator; Mark Sauter and Jane Sauter (no relation) for House Seat 1A; and Cornel Rasor and Chuck Lowman for House Seat 1B. 

Topics may include taxes, education, immigration, health care and public safety. 

Those unable to attend in person can watch a recording on the group’s YouTube page. 

Panhandle Republican Women is a club based out of Boundary County that is affiliated with the Idaho Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women. 

According to its website, the group aims to foster loyalty to the Republican Party at all levels of government in accordance with the rules of the Idaho GOP and the club’s bylaws. Its goals include supporting and promoting the Republican Party and its platform, as well as educating voters about Republican candidates and local issues. 

The primary election will be held May 19.
