The Crown of the Continent Choir closes its 14th season with The Power of Kindness concert May 3 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

The program features a mix of music centered on themes of kindness and belonging, with selections by Joni Mitchell, John Muir and Ola Gjeilo. Accompanist Eunhwa Park will perform two piano solos featuring works by Felix Mendelssohn.

A highlight of the program is the African Zulu song “Inkosi Namandla,” a traditional Tshwane church song arranged by Michael Barrett and accompanied by guest drummer ensemble Ashè. Featured artists include Iona McMillan and Robert Sherrick on the djembe and Julie Sherrick on dun duns. Both instruments are types of traditional West African drums.

The concert also serves as a fundraiser for the choir. A silent auction and raffle are planned with a grand prize of two tickets to the Under the Big Sky Music Festival. The silent auction begins at 3 p.m., followed by the concert at 4 p.m.

The concert is free, but a suggested donation of $10 is welcome.

The Crown of the Continent Choir is an inclusive community choir in the Flathead Valley and is under the direction of Craig Naylor.
