ITD warns of scam texts
STAFF REPORT | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 3 hours, 53 minutes AGO
A new wave of fraudulent text messages impersonating courts, law enforcement and the DMV is hitting Idahoans, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
These messages often include official-sounding case numbers, threats of warrants or asset seizure and links that don't lead to government websites.
"As a reminder, ITD will not send unexpected texts demanding payment, threatening legal action, or directing customers to non-government links," said a news release issued by ITD.
If a message does not end in a .gov address, it is not from ITD.
Idahoans who receive these texts should avoid clicking links, sharing personal information or making payments. Report the message to your mobile carrier and delete it. For accurate information about one's driver’s license or vehicle registration, visit dmv.idaho.gov.
