Some strategies to reduce stress include physical activities such as walking, yoga, swimming, gardening or chair exercises. These increased endorphins are the “feel good” neurotransmitter in the brain and lower blood pressure.

Nutrition is also key to lowering stress. Maintaining a healthy diet, limiting caffeine and alcohol intake can help stabilize emotions. Stay socially connected by joining clubs, support groups, volunteering, writing letters to loved ones and visiting friends and family.

Pick a Hobby: Gardening, reading, listening to music or painting provides mental distance from stressors. Spending time outdoors with nature and pet can help relieve stress. Maintaining a positive attitude and using the “5x5” rule: If it isn’t going to matter 5 years from now, don’t worry about it for more than 5 minutes. Also, drinking the daily water allowance (6-8 glasses per day) keeps the brain sharp, improves digestion and boosts energy.
