The city of Coeur d'Alene announced Thursday the appointment of Greg Yeager as its new police chief.

Yeager has accepted the conditional offer, contingent on the successful completion of the required background process and has an expected start date of June 1, according to a press release.

“Greg Yeager stood out in a highly competitive and thorough recruitment process,” said Interim City Administrator Ron Jacobson, in the release. “We are confident he will continue the strong foundation of our Police Department while continuing to strengthen trust, community partnerships, and public safety in Coeur d’Alene.”

Coeur d'Alene Police Department Capt. Dave Hagar has been the acting police chief and was a finalist for the post.

Yeager brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the city. He replaces Lee White, who retired in January. Yeager is the deputy chief for Fort Collins police in Colorado.

"Throughout his public safety career, his experience has demonstrated his ability to lead with integrity and transparency, be committed to strong community relationships, operational excellence, and a continued commitment to community safety," the release said.

Yeager's starting salary was not immediately available.
