Grace Holm, 93

Grace Ellen Holm, 93, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend, passed away on July 26, 2026, after a life filled with music, faith, family and friendship.

Grace was born on Jan. 25, 1933, in Minot, North Dakota, to James and Mayme Speiser. After her father’s death in 1940, Grace and her mother later moved to Stanley.

Grace graduated from Stanley High School in 1951 and remained close to her classmates throughout her life. Music was central to her from childhood, beginning with piano lessons and continuing through school programs, choir, band, plays and later community performances.

She attended Minot State Teachers College, earned a degree in business education and taught in Stanley. There she became reacquainted with Don Holm and they were married on June 21, 1958. They were blessed with twins, Cindy and James and a daughter, Nancy.

Grace and Don made their home in Stanley, where Don farmed and Grace raised their children, later working for the Mountrail County Promoter and Stanley Public School. She was active in church, music club, bowling, Girl Scouts and often shared her voice at weddings and funerals.

In 1986, Grace and Don moved to Kalispell. Grace became active in Eidsvold Lutheran Church, Sweet Adelines International and Valley Voices, competing with the Sweet Adelines in Detroit, Calgary, Houston and Nashville.

She worked at the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, where she enjoyed helping visitors discover the Flathead Valley. In retirement, Grace and Don treasured summer visits back to Stanley with classmates, friends, and relatives.

After Don’s passing in 2017, Grace lived with her daughter Cindy in Kalispell. Following a fall in December 2023 and several surgeries, she spent time at Brendan House before moving to The Retreat Memory Care in March 2024, where she remained until her passing.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mayme Speiser; her husband, Don; her son, James and his wife Carol and many beloved relatives and friends. 

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy and Nancy (Scott); granddaughter, Shannon; and a soon-to-arrive great-granddaughter; stepgranddaughters, Samantha and Serena and their children, Chloe, Ethan, Hazley and Maisy.

Grace’s family is grateful for the compassionate care she received at Brendan House and The Retreat Memory Care in Kalispell.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Eidsvold Lutheran Church in Somers. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
