Avista makes progress restoring service following wildfires

Avista has made significant progress repairing wildfire-damaged electric infrastructure across eastern Washington as improved weather and safer conditions have allowed crews to access previously unreachable areas.

Crews have completed repairs to a critical transmission line damaged by the fires, greatly improving the system's ability to deliver power. As a result, Avista no longer anticipates the need for broad, periodic power outages related to transmission capacity in the coming days. The company also thanked customers for conserving electricity during a critical period, helping reduce strain on the system.

"While the progress we've made is encouraging, we know many families and businesses are still dealing with the impacts of these fires," said Heather Rosentrater, Avista president and CEO. "We're grateful for the support of first responders and our mutual aid partners as we continue repairing infrastructure and restoring service safely and as quickly as possible."

Approximately 3,800 electric customers remain without power. More than 20 crews are working to restore service in Spokane and Stevens counties, including areas near Indian Trail, Riverside State Park, Mead and other impacted communities. In Inchelium, eight-line crews have begun restoration efforts after wildfire activity previously prevented safe access, and generators have been deployed to support the community during repairs.

Approximately 5,000 natural gas customers in the Spokane area also remain without service due to wildfire damage, access restrictions and ongoing safety concerns. Crews are inspecting and repairing infrastructure as conditions allow. Customers should not attempt to restore natural gas service themselves. Avista personnel will work directly with customers once it is safe to restore service.

Avista also emphasized that it has shut off natural gas flow to damaged portions of its system and continues to monitor and inspect infrastructure to ensure public safety throughout the restoration process.
