Craig Whitley, 67

Craig's journey began March 15, 1959, in Kellogg, Idaho. He was born to Carol (Grant) Whitley and Lloyd Finley. He was later adopted by Edgar Whitley, who became an important father figure in his life. 

Born with Cystic Fibrosis, Craig never allowed the disease to define him. Instead, he lived with remarkable strength, resilience and determination, embracing life with optimism and courage.

He graduated from Boise State University, where he studied horticulture and earned a degree in elementary education. He later received his master's degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Craig discovered his true calling in teaching and devoted nearly 30 years to the classroom. 

Many of his former students have shared that Craig changed the course of their lives by believing in them before they believed in themselves. He inspired them to pursue their dreams with confidence, embrace challenges with curiosity and discover a lifelong love of learning. His patience, encouragement and unwavering faith in every child's potential left a lasting impact that extended far beyond the classroom. Years later, former students continued to reach out, expressing gratitude for the teacher who helped shape not only their education but also the people they became. In addition to teaching, Craig led tumbling teams at five different schools within the Clark County School District, creating opportunities for students to build confidence, teamwork and lasting friendships.

Throughout his distinguished career in education, Craig received numerous honors, including Teacher of the Year at multiple schools and for the state of Nevada. He had many other recognitions for his dedication and impact on students.

Outside the classroom, Craig found joy in gardening, cooking, skiing, hiking, bouldering and sharing his love of learning with others. He was also a devoted Boise State Broncos football fan. Above all, Craig had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Whether organizing reunions, family gatherings, celebrations or simple get-togethers, he created meaningful moments that strengthened friendships and family bonds. 

Craig is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Finley; his adoptive father, Edgar Whitley; his siblings, Mark Whitley and Teresa Whitley; and other beloved family members and dear friends who held a special place in his heart.

Craig is survived by the love of his life and husband of 22 years, David Palomo; his beloved daughters, Alicyn Whitley and Evelyn Dolphin; their mother, Sue Dolphin; his mother, Carol Whitley; his sister, Kathleen Hrabik (Marty Hrabik); and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces that he adored.

Craig deeply treasured his family, cherished his friendships and embraced every adventure life had to offer. His kindness, generosity and ability to connect with others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
