A Troy woman pleaded guilty to assaulting her elderly grandmother and a law enforcement officer during an arraignment hearing last week in district court.

Jessica Mae Pillans, 30, was first charged last fall with felony assault on a peace officer as well as obstructing a peace officer and partner/family member assault, both misdemeanors.

Pillans appeared in Lincoln County District Court July 27 and through her counsel, Scott B. Johnson, pleaded guilty to all three offenses.

District Judge Matt Cuffe ordered a pre-sentence investigation. Johnson mentioned that a plea deal called for a 3-year deferred term. 

Cuffe sent sentencing for Sept. 14.

Pillans was supposed to be arraigned on the charges Nov. 3, but she reportedly wouldn’t appear via Zoom for the hearing. An Oct. 24 court filing indicated Pillans was going to be sent to the state hospital in Warm Springs for an evaluation.

Pillans remains lodged in the Lincoln County Detention County on $40,000 bail. 

According to the probable cause statement, county deputy Derek Breiland was dispatched to a home on Callahan Creek Road for an assault. The deputy reported a dispatcher told him Pillans had left the residence and took her grandmother’s cell phone so she couldn’t call 911. The woman had to call 911 from another person’s phone.

Captain Anthony Jenson arrived on the scene first. Pillans eventually spoke to Breiland, but gave him little information. She said her grandmother took her phone. The officer later found that didn’t happen. Pillans denied having any physical contact with her grandmother.

When Breiland spoke to the grandmother, she said Pillans had been in a manic state for a long time. She also said she locked her bedroom door because she was afraid of the accused. She said during the Sept. 24 incident, Pillans slapped her arm, yelled and screamed at her and threatened assault several times.

Breiland’s report also mentioned a previous alleged assault against another household member who was punched in the head.

Pillans then handed her grandmother’s phone to Breiland. 

When the officer tried to handcuff Pillans, she scratched him with her fingernails and also tried to pull away from him.

According to the probable cause statement, the aggression reportedly continued when Pillans tried to pull away from officers. After being taken to the county jail she was forcibly escorted to the dress out room where she attacked a detention officer. 

The officer suffered scratch marks on her face which caused bleeding. It took 30 minutes for the bleeding to stop after she was treated for the injuries. The officer reportedly suffered cuts to her nose, cheek and lips.
