Betty Burland Hernandez – Polson, Mont.
Betty Burland Hernandez was born in 1945 in St. Ignatius to Frank and Olivine Burland. She was the fifth of eight children.
Betty married right out of high school and raised three children on her own.
She was loved and respected by her congregation, community, family and past co-workers.
Betty chose to become one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1975 and that choice, along with the Bible education she received throughout her life, contributed greatly to her joy, peace and hope.
Betty moved to her home west of Polson in 1997 and resided there until her death. Betty worked for the CSKT Tribes for many years. Her favorite job was her last one.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Olivine Burland; her sister, Barbara Mann; brother Leroy Burland; and sister Janice Durant.
She enjoyed the love and friendship of her remaining siblings: Sherrie Whiting, Marilyn Howell, Florence Gehring, Eugene Burland and Tracy Burland. She also loved her nieces and nephews. Her home was filled with photos of all of them.
Betty especially loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: her daughter, Ramona Thomas (spouse Joe), with grandsons Spencer and Logan and their spouses, Lisa and Rachel, and their children (Betty’s great-grandchildren), Gwen, Neko and Remi; her son, Tony, his daughter, Stephanie, and Betty’s great-grandchild Everlee; and son Kevin Hernandez, spouse Amber and son Chandler.
Late in Betty’s life she found out she had Lupus which contributed greatly to her poor health. She was laid to rest in July 2026 at the hospital in Kalispell, with her daughter, her son-in-law, grandsons and their families by her side.
She was known for being a very responsible person who took anything she was responsible for seriously. Betty loved God, His creation and her future hope of being healthy and happy with her family.
Arrangements have been made for a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, south of Polson off Hwy. 93. A meal will follow at Polson Red Lion.
