Mark Van Harrison Jones, 60

Mark Van Harrison Jones suddenly “slipped the surly bonds of earth” on July 26, at the age of 60. He lived a life guided by wonder, adventure, and a strong thirst for knowledge.

Mark found joy in exploring wild places and embracing new experiences. He fished in Alaska, hiked the Oregon Coast Trail, worked in Yellowstone, and spent his final years near Glacier National Park, where he chose to live close to family. Of all the places he loved, the Oregon Coast remained closest to his heart. There he made cherished memories growing up with his father, Lonnie Cy Jones, his mother, Margaret Jones, and his sister, Marcie Adams (Jones), and shared many special moments with treasured friends. Those years by the sea nurtured his lifelong love of discovery.

He was a gifted welder, a proud small business owner, and an avid horticulturist. He loved great music, writing, good books, and meaningful conversations. Whether in the mountains or along the coast, Mark found brilliance in the world.

Mark is survived by his loving mother, Margaret; his sister, Marcie; his brother-in-law, Scott; and his beloved niece and nephews, Riley, Gabriel and Phineas. He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Cy Jones.

Those who knew Mark will remember his sparkling eyes, infectious laugh, adventurous spirit, and appreciation for life’s simple joys. His legacy remains in the stories he shared and the lives he touched. The roads he explored, the trails he walked and the coast he cherished will forever remind us of his passion and his heart. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
