Hitter of the Week: Great Falls’ Kyle Schmack had a week to match his surname: 16-for-29 with five doubles, a triple, three HRs and 10 runs batted in. He also scored 11 runs to earn the PBL’s Week 11 honor. 

Pitcher of the Week: Jonah Jenkins of the Modesto Roadsters went 2-0 over the week, allowing three hits and two earned runs in 13 innings. He walked four and fanned 17; his wins came against the RedPocket Mobiles and the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds; in the latter he threw seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts in 83 pitches. 

Who’s Hot: Modesto is now 17-1 this half and had won eight straight heading into Tuesday’s action. The Roadsters play three games against Yuba-Sutter and three against the Mobiles this week; the two opponents have six second-half wins between them. 

Who’s Not: The Mobiles are 1-17 this half, taking some spotlight off the Glacier Range Riders — who lost five straight in Boise after beating the Hawks 23-4 to open their series and are 4-14 this half. 

Hat Tip to Jeter: Pioneerleague.com posts a weekly recap of its 12 teams, with some highlights. One was Oakland’s Jeter Ybarra hitting three home runs on Sunday against the Mobiles, including a grand slam in the ninth inning to erase a 9-5 deficit. Then he won the Knockout Round 1-0. Ybarra has a league-leading 29 home runs. Kishon Frett hit his 11th and 12th HRs for the Mobiles, but lost the KO Round 1-0.

Schmack had competition for Hitter of the Week, and some of them have great names: Modesto’s Osiris Johnson hit a grand slam to cap an 11-run first inning Friday, in a game the Roadsters won 22-1 over Yuba-Sutter. ... On Thursday Cuba Bass hit two grand slams for Long Beach — his first put the Coast up 13-6 and his second made it 25-11 the next inning. The final was 28-11, with Long Beach hitting eight homers, including two each from Jacob Jablonski and Cooper Fest. ... Ogden’s Carmine Lane had three HRs in that same game, which was the completion of a suspended contest. The teams played another and Ogden’s Sebastian Greico homered three times in the Raptors’ 20-3 win — two 3-run shots and one solo (Nico Saltaformaggio went six innings in earning his league-best ninth win). ... On Wednesday Great Falls SS Trey Cruz hit for the cycle in the Voyagers’ 22-12 win in Missoula. Cruz hit a 2-run HR in the first inning, an RBI triple in the second, flied out, struck out, singled in the seventh and walked in the eighth. Then he hit a two-run double in the ninth to complete the cycle.  

Riding High

Outfielder Brody Capps, fresh out of SE Louisiana, enjoyed a nice first week with the Range Riders —8-for-21 with his first professional home run, five doubles, 10 runs scored and six RBIs. Capps’ arrival came as Glacier placed outfielder JD McLaughlin on the Injury List. ... Shortstop Jacob Steele had the warmest week for Glacier, going 11-for-17 with nine runs and six RBIs in five games. He had four hits on Saturday and a pinch-hit walk on Sunday, and over the week raised his average from .273 to .308. He has six HRs and his 49 RBIs rank fifth on the team. Donovan Ratfield leads the Range Riders with 54 RBIs and is hitting .370.
