Colin Roos, Lamar University Baseball

Sandpoint High's latest Division 1 product, Roos is wrapping up his summer season as a pitcher for the Matsu Miners before heading to Texas. Roos started on the bump for the Miners in their July 28 game against the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks, earning the win after another three-inning outing.

Across the three innings, Roos allowed one earned run off three hits while striking out five of the 15 batters he faced. Of his 54 pitches, Roos threw 33 strikes, continuing to hunt the zone for the Miners.

In the summer season, Roos has thrown 27 innings, struck out 28 batters and maintained a 5.00 ERA with a 2-1 record. The Miners' season comes to an end on Aug. 4 with a final series against the Anchorage Bucs.

Austin Dillon, Yakima Valley Community College Baseball

Another former Sandpoint star made two appearances on the mound for his summer ball team, the Yakima Valley Pippins, last week. In his first start against the Corvallis Knights, Dillon threw four innings, struck out one while allowing four earned runs. Though it was an up-and-down start for Dillon, the Pippins did prevail, beating the Knights 12-7 on July 24.

Dillon returned to the bump on July 30 for another mixed outing against the Springfield Drifters. The Sandpoint High product struck out four batters across three innings but gave up seven earned runs. Yet again, Yakima Valley was able to win, walking off the Drifters 13-12 on Thursday.

Through nine appearances, Dillon has a 2-3 record, giving up 50 hits and a 6.43 ERA across 40 innings. Dillon has remained a strikeout machine for the Pippins, totaling 25 in nine games and averaging five strikeouts per game.

The Pippins will close out their season with two more three-game series, against the Knights and the Portland Pickles, respectively.
