BONNERS FERRY — For the second year in a row, basketball hoops lined downtown Bonners Ferry for the Swish 3v3 tournament last weekend.
Hosted by non-profit Elevate Boundary County, the tournament brought in 47 teams, or 188 people, from across North Idaho and Western Montana to compete. Director of the Swish tournament and EBC board member, Amber Wymer, said the event grew by seven teams and was another roaring success.
"The number of people that came up to us and told us thank you, and this is a fantastic tournament, and we're really appreciative," Wymer said. "People were having fun. The courts were awesome. The play was competitive. It was just really a good day."
In addition to the competitive youth brackets, Wymer said that the tournament saw eight men's teams and two women's teams. She said that is an area that saw growth and one that the organization hopes continues to draw in more participants from across the region as the event continues.
The event is hosted as a fundraiser for EBC, which is raising funds in hopes of building a recreation center in the county.
"We are currently in the process of looking for land and finding a place to put this center, and so this really helps us get on our feet," Wymer said. "As soon as we can find land, we can get the ball rolling a little more with grants. But the fundraising that we earn from Swish is extremely helpful in our goals for that."
Wymer thanked the event's sponsors and volunteers for their efforts to make the event a success.
"It is a huge undertaking to put on the event, and so with that, a huge thank you to all the volunteers that just give their time to help with setup, help with cleanup, help during the event," Wymer said. "It's tough, but we couldn't do it without all of the people in our community that come together and are willing to give back."
