100 Years Ago

A contract was given on District #8 near Porthill to dike and ditch the 3,000 acres of bottom land. Work is expected to be completed by next May.

The fires continue to burn with new fires reported in the Canyon and Smith Creek areas. The Meadow Creek fire is the worst - where between 12,000 and 15,000 acres have been burned and is threatening the Rock Creek and Mission Creek drainage. The State of Idaho land board has appropriated $100,000 to be used in fire fighting in North Idaho.

50 Years Ago

Community Theatre announced it would produce "A Night with Charles Dickens and Mark Twain" with Stephen Allen and Carl Pabst.

In an election which brought out many voters, the county endorsed Walt Worley, Roy Grove, Clyde Mead, and Allan MacDonald to run for commissioner and Mike LaBrosse and Frank Quagliano to run for sheriff.

It may be dull and boring sitting on a tractor pulling a baler, but add the thrill of competition with other tractor drivers, and you have one of the major elements of the Annual Tractor Driving Contest at the Boundary Co. Fair.

The Boundary County Fair promises to be "Out of This World". This year's fair royalty are: Courtney Tanner, Whitney White, Mariah Munson, and Paula Sandelin.

This year's Rotary Club Kootenai River Ride is being dedicated to the memory of Tanya McCoy.

Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge 2011 will hold its 18th Annual Women's Outdoor Clinic.
