Clyde Schilling, 74

Clyde Thomas Schilling, 74, passed away peacefully Friday, July 31, 2026, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 346 Fifth St. in Ponderay, Idaho.

Clyde was born August 25, 1951, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Clyde and Clara Schilling. As a child, his family moved to Thermopolis, Wyo., before returning to Sandpoint. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1971.

In June 1971, Clyde married the love of his life, Vicky Schilling. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work and laughter, sharing more than 55 years of marriage.

Clyde was known for his incredible work ethic. He began working for Les Rogers at Rogers M&J in the 1970s. Clyde helped build the Bonner Mall while working for Citadel Construction before returning to work with Les at Rogers Excel. He then served as the night manager at Safeway, then worked as a truck driver for Bill Jones Distributor. He finished his career making deliveries for Sandpoint Building Supply, where he continued to be known as a dependable employee.

Retirement didn't slow Clyde down. He started his own woodworking business, Swings and Things, where he built beautiful picnic tables and porch swings that can be found throughout the community. He completed his final picnic table just this past spring.

Of all his hobbies, perch fishing was Clyde's favorite. Nothing made him happier than spending time on the water with a fishing pole in hand. He also loved watching classic Westerns and had a wonderful sense of humor. Clyde had a way of saying exactly what was on his mind, which brought endless laughter and created countless cherished stories.

More than anything, Clyde loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. To those who loved him most, he will always be "Bumpa" or simply "Bump." His greatest joy came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Clyde F. Schilling.

Clyde is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky Schilling; his children, Jerry (Becky Oxford) Schilling, Christopher (Sherene) Schilling and Bridget (Clint) Brintle; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his siblings, Marcella Ireland, Marlene Martino, Twila Adams, Chester Schilling and Lorraine Chapman.
