Spokane man drowns at Independence Point

Coeur d'Alene police and fire personnel respond to a drowning at Independence Point on Saturday afternoon. An adult male visitor was reported pulled from Lake Coeur d'Alene near the beach after being found submerged in the water. First responder efforts to revive him with CPR were unsuccessful. An investigation continues.

A 36-year-old Spokane man drowned at Independence Point on Saturday.
According to a Coeur d'Alene Police press release, officers responded to the docks about 1:15 p.m. for a report of a male in distress who had been submerged underwater for an extended period of time.
Officers who were in the area were flagged down by several individuals near the docks. Upon arrival, officers found that the male had already been removed from the water and that a citizen was performing CPR.
"Officers immediately took over life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene," the release said.
Medical personnel continued resuscitation efforts for about 30 minutes.
"Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene," the release said.
Coeur d’Alene Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
