Upset over missing out on a ride, a Kalispell man last year allegedly threatened his roommate with a knife.  

Prosecutors charged Paul C. Schane, 58, with a felony count of assault with a weapon following the Aug. 5, 2025 confrontation on Parkway Drive. Nearly a year after a warrant for his arrest was first issued, Schane pleaded not guilty before Judge Dan Wilson at his Aug. 6 arraignment in Flathead County District Court.  

Releasing Schane on his own recognizance, Wilson set an omnibus hearing for Sept. 9 with a pretrial conference to follow on Nov. 10.  

Afraid to go home, Schane's roommate contacted the Kalispell Police Department about 12:23 a.m., Aug. 6, 2025, according to court documents. She said that she typically gave Schane rides, but on Aug. 5 had grown tired of waiting for him and left. 

Schane allegedly insulted her and threw items around. After she departed, he sent a string of profane text messages to her, court documents said.  

She returned home about 6 p.m. to check on her dog. That's when Schane confronted her with a kitchen knife, court documents said.  

"I'm going to kill you," he allegedly said.  

The victim told the police she believed Schane was going to stab her or cut her throat, according to court documents. As he allegedly drove the knife into a pillow, she left for a friend's house. Schane allegedly followed her on foot.  

When officers swung by the Parkway Drive home, Schane was gone, court documents said.  

If convicted, Schane faces up to 20 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine.
