As written by Lynnell’s family —

Lynnell Marie Schonewald shed this mortal coil on July 26, 2026, at the age of 495 in dog years. Born in Kellogg, Idaho, to her loving parents, Paul and Dorothy Johnson, on Dec. 9, 1955. She grew up in Kingston with her older sister, Paula (Bush), and younger sister, Julie (Berg). Little is known of her youth, due to it predating most historical records.

Her adulthood, however, was full of cantankerous remarks, idle threats, active threats, love and fun. An aficionado of disappointment, she was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks, going so far as to see the latter botch their first Super Bowl appearance live and in person.

Lynnell also enjoyed reading, puzzles, baking children into pies, and relaxing by the local rivers and lakes.

Her greatest passion, however, was her kids. While she only had three biological children, she treated everyone as her own. From food to friendship, she made sure that anyone under her roof was taken care of, and it’s because of that fact that she will be so deeply missed.

Lynnell is preceded in death by both her parents, Paul and Dorothy, and her daughter, Katelynn.

She is survived by her sisters, Paula and Julie; ex-husbands Blair Schonewald and Scott Ellingson; sons Thomas (favorite) and Cristopher (second favorite); and most perfect granddaughters, Opal (Thomas) and Luella (Cris). She is also survived by the countless others who loved her and called her Mom over the years.

May we all be haunted by you like you always threatened to do.

A memorial service will be held at the Kellogg Elks on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, at 1 p.m. Memories of Lynnell and messages of condolence may be shared online at www.shoshonefuneralservice.com. Shoshone Funeral Services of the Silver Valley is caring for the family.
