Excellent history of the Hungry Horse News.  Having just turned 80 myself last November, I can relate to the time frame and the endurance it takes to keep your high quality local journalism going for eight decades.  Congratulations.

And all with just three outstanding editors covering the whole period.

When Mel Ruder sold the paper in 1978 after his 32 years and 1965 Pulitzer Prize, I made my first trip to the Flathead and purchased the 40 acres in Coram we still call home. But since we didn’t move up from Southern California until 1985, I first subscribed to the Hungry Horse News around 1978 to learn more about the area we planned to make our home.  We’re been faithful subscribers for nearly 50 years, so we learned from Brian Kennedy’s two-plus decades as editor, and now from Chris Peterson, closing in on three decades of fine editorial and photographic work.

It is truly a remarkable accomplishment to maintain and publish such fine local journalism and provide such a valuable community service.

Keep it up Chris —you’ve only got about five more years to become the longest serving of the three distinguished Hungry Horse News editors.
