“Wow” was the exclamation heard numerous times throughout this year’s Mineral County Cabin Fever Quilters' Quilt Show entitled “Stars & Stripes Forever.”

In celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, the local quilt guild put on a display of patriotism and pride. From the second attendees entered the foyer of the Superior High School, they were in for a treat. A lovely display of patriotic quilts surrounded the Service Quilt program display, where a few of the guild members presented service quilts to local Mineral County veterans on Saturday, in appreciation for their service to our country. This is a long tradition filled with passion.

Alongside the patriotic display, attendees found representatives from our local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

“It was beautiful in many ways,” reported Quilt Show Chairman Naomi Mesenbrink.

As the show continued into the gym, the lighting and air conditioning were a welcome bonus as viewers walked among the displays of remarkable quilts.

With over 125 quilts registered, the competition was stiff, but the votes tallied at the end of Friday revealed the following ribbon winners: Bed Quilt (Pro-Quilted)-Karlene Zunino; Bed Quilt (Self-Quilted)-Kerrie Hershey; Lap Quilt-Susan Charles; Modern/Contemporary-Laura Diko; Upcycled-Naomi Mesenbrink; Wall Hanging-Katherine Raether; Baby/Child Quilt-Bonnie Goodrich; Art Quilt-Bonnie Goodrich; Guild Challenge-Susan Charles; Handwork Quilt-Sheila Trickel; Panel Quilt-Bonnie Goodrich; Scrappy Quilt-Della Russell; Patriotic Quilt-Karlene Zunino. There were 3 special ribbon categories this year for attendees to vote on as well: People’s Choice Best of Show-Susan Charles; Guild’s Choice Best of Show-Bonnie Goodrich; Veteran’s Choice Best of Show-Karlene Zunino.

Several interactive experiences were available in this year’s show, which included demonstrations by vendors, guild members, and the Featured Quilter Kerrie Hershey. Guild President Katie Benson also made a community quilt available for attendees to “make their mark.” The beautiful patriotic Raffle Quilt created by Cabin Fever Quilters guild members was raffled off and the name of winner Mary Suckow of Saltese, Montana was selected.

Guild member Nicki Clyde said it best in the end: “This is a real quilt show now."
