Margery Heisel, 86

He saw her on the crowded dock, downtown Coeur d'Alene, July 1961. He knew he had to approach with his line: "I've got a TR, do you want to see it?" She, in her fresh out-of-nursing-school mind, thought, "OK, he's only in swimming trunks; what kind of scar or ailment could a TR be? In those days, he was driving a 1959 Triumph Roadster! This would be the first line in a love story and true friendship that lasted for 65 years and produced 23 descendants so far.

Margery Alexandria Heisel (Fraser) was born in Northern Saskatchewan, Prince Albert, Canada, on Jan. 31, 1940. She spent her youth there until she went to nursing school in Saskatoon. While vacationing at Lake Coeur d'Alene, she had a fateful encounter with her "TR" boy, Herbert Heisel, whom she later married and then relocated to Coeur d'Alene to start a family.

Midge worked as a nurse and hospital supervisor for 42 years at Lake City General on Lakeside Avenue, Kootenai Medical Center and Kootenai Health. She had an impact on generations of nurses with her personality and skills as a mentor and caregiver!

She enjoyed her hobbies of knitting and crocheting and was a key figure in bringing her nursing buddies to Curling in Coeur d'Alene! 

Often, if you stopped by the Heisel residence post-retirement, you would be met with a note saying, "Gone Camping," as she and her husband would be racking up the miles on their motorhome on adventure after adventure!

Midge passed away July 11, 2026, peacefully surrounded by family as Herb held her. There will be a celebration of life Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Heisel House.
