Classical guitar series continues with Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux

North Valley Music School continues its 2026 Classical Guitar Series with a performance by Jason Vieaux on Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Stack Recital Hall.  

The concert will celebrate a vast repertoire for acoustic guitar, from Brazilian tango to Bach, with a few original compositions.  

The Classical Guitar Series, curated and sponsored by Whitefish resident, classical guitarist and producer, James Stroud, brings world-class guitar artistry to Northwest Montana.  

Through Stroud’s leadership and vision, NVMS is hosting internationally acclaimed artists throughout 2026 in the Stack Recital Hall. Each guitarist is celebrated for their virtuosity, innovation, and contributions to the global guitar community. 

The opening performance by Hao Yang on Jan. 10 was met with strong community attendance and enthusiastic response, affirming the Flathead Valley’s appetite for exceptional international music experiences.   

Concerts are free, but any donations will go toward the NVMS Scholarship Program. The Aug. 14 performance is one hour with no intermission.  

Sought-after for his extensive concerto repertoire, Grammy-winner Vieaux has performed with a long list of orchestras including Cleveland, Toronto, St. Louis, Houston, Columbus, and has made premiere recordings with the Nashville Symphony (Leshnoff Concerto) and the Norrköping Symphony (Beal Six Sixteen). He has worked with renowned conductors including Giancarlo Guerrero, Jahja Ling, Gerard Schwarz and David Robertson. 

Vieaux’s iscography includes “Bach Volume 2: Works for Violin." Additional 2022 releases include “Shining Night” featuring his duo with acclaimed violinist Anne Akiko Meyers and Michael Fine’s “Concierto del Luna” with flutist Alexa Still. 

Vieaux is no stranger to performing in Montana, giving a solo recital in Bozeman last year. In September 2024, he performed Joaquin Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez with the Glacier Symphony near Kalispell. He also performed at the Crown Guitar Festival in Montana in 2017.  

"Montana audiences have been really great for me,” Vieaux said. “For this recital, they will hear a wide variety of musical styles and periods, from Bach to Latin American, a couple of my own short pieces from my forthcoming album Gratitude, and the first movement of a piece that American jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny wrote for me."
