Carl’s Corn Dogs won first place in the Best Food at the Fair competition for their Fried Tillamook Cheese Square. The annual competition takes place at the Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo.
Chef Michaella Evert, along with students from the Culinary Institute of Montana at Flathead Valley Community College and celebrity guest Jason Hurst from NBC Montana, served as the judges and spent several hours sampling a variety of fair food. At the end of the day, it was the Fried Tillamook Cheese Square that made a blue-ribbon impression on the judges for its flavor and visual appeal.
"It’s exactly what you think fair food should be...fried and easy to eat," Culinary Institute student Chad Dunshee said.
Coming in second place this year was D & T BBQ's Deep Fried Ice Cream.
"The huckleberry flavor really came through, giving you that Montana vibe," Dunshee said.
Third place went to Big Sky Espresso for their Huckleberry Kiss.
"It’s bright, fruity and refreshing," Dunshee said.
The Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo is happening now through Sunday, Aug.16 at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. For more information, visit nwmtfair.com.
