MCS announces production of Disney's 'Aladdin KIDS'

Fresh off the heels of its sold-out performances of Disney's "Frozen Jr." in June, the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint is bringing its production of Disney's "Aladdin KIDS" to the Panida on Friday, Aug. 14.

Two shows will be held, the first at 4 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m.

Based on the 1992 Disney film, this family-friendly musical is specially adapted for young performers and audiences, making it an engaging show for all ages.

The students performing the play are currently enrolled in the Music Conservatory's Music Matters! Summer Academy, led by director Janice Wall. Over the course of the two-week musical theater camp, the cast is staying busy with auditions, set design, rehearsals, and the final showcase.

“The process from start to finish is always fun. It's rewarding to meet kids that you've never met before, get to watch their talent emerge, and experience their excitement as they perform in front of people they don't know,” Wall said. “Right now, these kids are budding stars. They are developing their skills and ultimately learning how to communicate their message to the audience.”

Academy staff said several striking elements from Disney's "Aladdin KIDS" will be the choreography and bright costumes. For the apparel, not is the producing mixing and matching pieces from MCS' collection of costumes, they also worked with local thrift shops like Bizarre Bazaar and Sanctuary Seconds to create the perfect look.

“They let us borrow anything we find,” Wall continues. “It's amazing how the community comes together to support us.”

Audiences will love this exciting stage adaptation of the legendary tale of the lovable thief with the heart of gold! All are invited to join Aladdin, Jasmine, and the fast-talking, wisecracking Genie as they discover mystical caves, take magic carpet rides, and outwit the evil sorcerer, Jafar.

The show includes musical favorites such as “Friend Like Me,” “A Whole New World,” and “Prince Ali.”
