Ruth Elaine Mikkelsen Diamond was born to Eva Holm Mikkelsen and Ole Sophus Mikkelsen on July 11, 1931, in Burley, Idaho. The family moved to Montana’s Mission Valley when she was 4 years old.
Elaine attended school in St. Ignatius, graduating from St. Ignatius High School in 1949. In 1955, she earned her degree in home economics from Montana State University. She taught in Montana for three years before moving to Washington.
On June 6, 1959, she married G. Warren Diamond. They had two children, Gregory Wayne, born in January 1963, and Kathleen Ann, born in March 1967. They made their home in Renton, Wash.
As Greg and Kathy grew older, Elaine returned to full-time work outside the home. She retired from the Boeing company.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Diamond Jensen; daughter-in-law Beverly Diamond; grandchildren Drew (Sidney) Diamond, Demi Diamond, Kelsay Jensen, Luke Jensen and Jules Jensen. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Willie Mikkelsen and Ila Mikkelsen, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her son, Greg, husband Warren, brothers Russell, Floyd and Ken Mikkelsen, and her sister, LaRee Pease.
Interment of Elaine’s ashes will take place at the Pleasant View Cemetery in St. Ignatius on Aug. 15, 2026, at 10 a.m. Her nephew, Alan Mikkelsen, will preside.
