William Long, 7

William Lavon Long, age 7, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, in a boating accident near Sandpoint, Idaho. He will be laid to rest at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint.

William was born Dec. 8, 2018, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to Jesse and Naomi Long. He was named after his grandfathers, LaVon William Long and William “Edwin” Finney. William was homeschooled through the first grade and enjoyed his time with the Royal Rangers at North Summit Church.

William loved crafts and games. Some of his favorite activities included making pony-bead animals, building rubber-band guns and playing with his Hot Wheels cars. He especially loved frogs and dreamed of one day raising and selling them.

William enjoyed playing video games with his brothers and his dad, Jesse, while he and his mom, Naomi, shared a special love of playing “Plants vs. Zombies.” He and his mom also enjoyed spending time outdoors searching for medicinal plants. William had a heart for healing and carried a first-aid kit filled with Band-Aids so he could “doctor” anyone who needed help.

Wednesdays were “cousin days” at Grandma’s house, something William looked forward to each week. His favorite movies included “Cars” and “Toy Story.” He also loved listening to the Bible on audiobook, which brought him comfort at night and whenever he was scared. He treasured bedtime stories, especially when “The Chronicles of Narnia” was read to him.

William is survived by his parents, Jesse and Naomi Long of Sandpoint; his siblings, Scarlett, 15, Desmond, 13, and Lydia, 5; his grandparents, Roy and Annie Long of Sandpoint and Alan and Susan Galloway of Priest River; and his great-grandmother, Evelyn “Nanny” Finney.
