SANDPOINT — For over 20 years, Detention Deputy Debra Baker has dedicated her career to serving in Bonner County.
And now, after Baker's honorable service with the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, the department has awarded her her handgun, badge and a retired ID card, a show of appreciation that recognizes Baker’s extensive work and service within the community.
“The ceremony recognizes that burden and the trust placed in them. This ceremony honors service and career identity. Departments often treat the badge as a lifelong emblem of the job. Presenting it reinforces ‘you earned this’ and ‘your service mattered,’” Sheriff Daryl Wheeler said. “Firearms and badges are not just items; they represent the duty to protect, enforce the law, and act under strict standards.”
Wheeler notes that a retiring sheriff or deputy may qualify for this gift after at least 20 years with the BCSO before being eligible.
