LOCALS FORM ARCHITECTURE ASSOCIATES

Sandpoint natives Craig Thompson and Royal Shields, both 1970 graduates of the U of I School of Architecture,  have formed a partnership, Western Design Associates. Thompson is now working on a major Seattle renovation project, but Shields will focus on structural design and renovation in this area. He previously worked on school-related buildings and churches in the Coeur d’Alene area, but for a closer look at his style, one has only to look across Pend Oreille Lake from City Beach, where Shields turned a rock slide into the front yard of his cedar-clad residence. Built by Shields and his wife, Jana, the home is suspended on pilings and reflects the slope of the slide in its own distinct lines. The house might at first seem a bit large for the couple, but 5 week old Fremont, the newest family member, is making his presence known, said Shields.

FOOTBALL PRACTICE TO BEGIN

Coach “Cotton” Barlow sent out a call for all high school boys interested in football to turn out for the first practice on Aug. 22 at 10 o’clock. Uniforms will be issued at this time. Freshmen are especially urged to turn out. “We’ll have to practice hard,” said Coach Barlow. “Our first game is Sept. 7 at Moscow and that doesn’t give us much time to get ready.”
