James Hollopeter, 89

James Hollopeter, 89, was born to John and Clara (Gauss) Hollopeter in Sinton, Texas, as his mom was visiting her sisters at the time. He was raised in the Swan (Condon). Jim joined the Navy at the age of 17, serving from 1954 to 1958. He married Joyce Nichols on Sept. 12, 1959, and resided in Condon and raised four children. Jim logged for a living. Later in life, he worked on the North Slope in Alaska and for McElroy and Wilken in Kalispell, but logging was his passion.

Dad always talked about his childhood in the Swan with his best friend and cousin, Martha (Punkie) Hollopeter Hollowell. Dad and Punkie were always on some adventure or excursion. Riding into the Bob Marshall with Punkie's parents, Pete and Mary Hollopeter; fishing, ice fishing, exploring and generally left to their own devices ... sometimes good and sometimes not. 

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his wife of 59 years, Joyce Hollopeter.

Jim is survived by his children Milton (Jenny) Hollopeter, Shawn Hollopeter, Leslie (Tom) Galassi and Lisa (Ron) Klempel and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including his whirlwind great-granddaughter, Ava, who came to visit him every morning and ate doughnuts with grandpa.
