Betty J. VanAlstine, age 94, of Whitefish, passed away peacefully Friday, August 14 surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born on April 17, 1932, to Karl and Elsie Patterson, she grew up to be a woman defined by her love for her family, her sharp wit, and an unwavering servanthood spirit. She married right out of high school to Walter Glenn VanAlstine, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Betty was a woman of unshakable faith, always in the same pew at St. Peter Lutheran Church. The love she had for her church and her church family was deep. She hated missing any church function, even to the very end.
She loved her family fiercely and cherished her role as grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. The children were her greatest joy, especially the babies. Her home was always open, and her advice was always given with unconditional love. She will forever be remembered fondly as “Playground Betty” for her years working at Muldown Elementary. She was an avid bowler, an unselfish giver, and tough as nails. To know her was to adore her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 22, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Whitefish with viewing from 10:00-10:30 a.m., and a service following at 11 a.m.
We will forever hold her beautiful memories in the depths of our hearts until we can hold her hand again in heaven.
Well done good and faithful servant…Matthew 25:23.
